“Into the Wild” si presenta come la storia of a journey, a classic road trip on the roads of the immense American West, with a precise destination, Alaska, with its vast wilderness, which becomes the ideal destination and also the epilogue of the adventure . Chris McCandless is but an emblem of the many crazy dreamers and romantics who have tried the dream in the wilderness of their liberation. Chris is a special boy, who grew up in a wealthy family, who can not bear the emptiness of the duties and conformism of bourgeois expectations as a career, the consumer objects which surround the layer of stable family relationships, but which in reality hide hatred and misunderstanding. Chris is a guy who wants to flee from all this and look at the nature and wandering aimlessly in the opportunity for genuine liberation and experimentation of pure vitality, the opportunity to come face to face with himself. Before leaving, give all his savings to charity and will get a new name: Alex Supertramp. In his long wanderings, which lasted two years, will meet many people, all will be affected by the playful and friendly character of Chris, and he, as is also shown in the film, will remain in the hearts of many people. Meet hippies and farmers, will travel on the underground train carriages such as Jack London's "The Road" will meet a girl who will love him, and in the end only an old and tired, he would like to take Chris as a child or grandchild. Perhaps the relationship of friendship that develops between the old and Chris is one of the most poignant of the entire film (and thus the whole true story). Chris encouraged the old man out of the solitude, to open our eyes to the greatness and beauty of the world, to move and travel. In the spring, Chris has the opportunity to finally realize his dream: to live for a certain period of time alone in the wilderness, finding food by hunting and gathering. Will camp in an old bus abandoned in the forest, which will become in some way, its "base camp". Chris began his adventure in a (deliberately) unprepared, without a map of the area, with little food and little equipment. Perhaps her desire was to succeed, with his stubborn will to survive in nature with very little. But perhaps there was an unconscious desire to want to be overwhelmed by nature, a kind of hidden desire for annihilation, but this still is not made explicit in the decision of those who seek solitude in the wilderness, and be subject to all sorts of danger. Certainly McCandless, even if reckless, not aspired to suicide. His personality, however controversial, led him to be theatrical and playful. Mc Candless has not sought the death: he was instead in love with life and what's in it more beautiful and majestic. Mc Candless sought authenticity and truth, and his principles involve the exaltation of life and not the retreat to themselves ol'autocommiserazione. It 'a spirit that reminds a lot of Jack London. Not for nothing Jack London was one of the favorite writers of Chris and if you like, even his own story, especially in the dramatic final stage, reminiscent of the great American writer, some stories, where men are confronted with the struggle for life , in 'harsh Yukon wilderness. Mc Candless can spend sixteen weeks alone, living only on hunting and gathering. A questo punto commetterà un errore che gli costerà la vita: mangerà, mistaking it as a species edible, some poisonous wild berries, which earned him weakness and malnutrition. Chris was a scholar of wild plants and had brought with him his hand. But nature is unpredictable and sometimes escapes our classification and categorization. Not having the strength to hunt or groped for the back, Chris's life is bound to a tragic fate to die of hunger alone. The nature that enhances its beauty and its mystery has a core which is defined as the state director Werner Herzog, from "chaos, conflict and death." Nature is not idyllic at all, because it overwhelms us with its strength and destroys us ... but perhaps good to see in this is its charm and its irresistible lure. Any negligence committed by man, the Wild can not be fatal. The beautiful final scenes of the film show this aspect, with the young McCandless only to reflect on his condition, while outside, in the natural world, continues its ruthless struggle for survival. Carcass of a moose killed by the boy in order to preserve the meat, it is invaded by worms; rush a pack of wolves and an eagle to share the spoils ... A bear huge step in the neighborhood, next to death and Chris ... danger is always lurking ... At the end of their tether by now aware of dying, highlight a phrase from a book of Pasternak (who along with Toltstoj and London is one of his favorite writers): "if it is true happiness can not be shared." We can not escape from civilization, abandoning the family and in general people who love us, chasing a dream of freedom that the end can not be utopia. Chris had understood it and wanted to go back, it was just a tragic fate that he could not return to the civilized world to witness his love for life and the beauty of nature. Chris will be a hero to some, for others a fool or naive. Surely in a world of hypocrisy and poor in ideals such as ours, its shape can only inspire sympathy and thanks ... can we afford to judge a young man who tried life in the "truth" and "authenticity"?
